One Thing

This is my entry to the inspired by a song contest so it will only be a one chapter short story, but I read the contest and all the songs you could choose from, I saw One Thing and knew automatically it would make a cute short story. Using the inspiration from the lyrics, the music video and upbeat sound of the song, i wanted to make a fanfic about Harry and a girl named Kendra.

1. One Thing

Today is the day. It's the last day before Kendra goes back America. I need to tell her how I feel, But it feels like every time I prepare myself to, I just freeze. My knees go weak and I don't know why I loose my cool around her but it happens every time I see her. These thoughts kept running through my head until I pulled into her driveway. I really want to convince her to stay here with me. I walked up to the door and knocked, before I knew it I was looking into Kendra's beautiful brown eyes.

"Hey Harry" She said with a big smile on her face.

"Hello." I put my hand out for her to take and led her to my car. And of course, being a gentlemen, I opened the door for her.

"What's the plan for today?" She asked as I pulled myself into the drivers seat.

"I was thinking London eye." The smile grew on her face. The London Eye is the only thing she hasn't had time to do while she was here, and I thought it would be a nice spot to tell her about, well, everything. "Why don't we get a bite to eat first."

"Sounds good, I'm starved!" We found a little place for some fish and chips, obviously, what else is she supposed to have on her last day here? It was looking out on the water, and as we sat and ate our meal, I looked over to Kendra, she looked sad.

"What's wrong love?"

"I just can't believe I'm leaving. I've made so many good friends here. Including you, It's hard to leave you all." I was caught on the word friends. I would try to get her attention every day that I like her as more than that, but I guess she hasn't noticed at all.

"Yeah, it's hard to see you go." We were pretty silent for a while I watched her look around with a sad face until her eyes lit up and she grabbed my arm and pulled me over to a little old man selling flowers.

"Look at them, they're so beautiful" I watched her as she awed over the flowers. I took out my wallet and motioned to the man that I wanted one red rose and he nodded. I exchanged my money and the rose then held it out to Kendra

"For you m'lady" she slowly grabbed it and smelled it.

"Harry! You didn't have to buy me one!"

"But I wanted to buy you one" she put the flower to her chest and smiled. As we started to walk away she grabbed my wrist again and pulled me towards a store with a lot of small toys, trinkets, jewelry and clothes inside she was walking through the store looking at everything like they were the coolest things she had ever seen. I was following her until a necklace caught my eye, It was the perfect going away present for her. It was in the shape of a heart and had the UK flag in jewels on it. Kind of cheesy but as long as she remembers me. I took it and brought it to the front cashier, she rung it up and gave it back to me in a box.

"C'mon let's go to the Eye Harry!" Kendra grabbed my wrist, again, and pulled me to my car. as we drove she was sticking her head almost completely out the window pointing at pretty much everything, which was adorable. We had made it to the eye right around sunset, and borded pretty quickly as well. "Harry.. I know I'm American and everything but, don't they usually put more than two people in each capsule?"

"Well, I requested that we're the only two."

"How di-"

"Don't worry about it." I smirked at her and she shook her head still wearing that beautiful smile she had been wearing all day. Seeing her on the eye was like a kid in a candy store, but we were almost to the top and this is where I had planned to tell her. "Kendra, come sit for a second." I led her to the bench in the middle of the capsule. My hands are getting sweaty and my knees are shaking but you probably didn't need to know that.

"Are you okay Harry?" I grabbed her hand and looked her right in the eye.

"Kendra, getting to know you this past year has been a dream come true for me. You're so smart and kind and beautiful. But there has been a downside. Ever since I first laid eyes on you, I couldn't get you out of my mind. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about you. I've been trying to impress you, show you that I like you as more than a friend but It's like you don't notice at all. Every time we hung out together I just wanted to hold you in my arms for the rest of my life. It's hard seeing you go because no one wants to see the love of their life cross the Atlantic ocean and not know when they are seeing them again. I don't know what it is about you that makes you so special but there is one thing that I do know; I have never felt this way about anyone ever." There was a silence as she looked out into the distance. We were now on the very top of the London Eye.

"I had no idea you felt that way." She said quietly as she looked back at me. I gulped and looked down, I was still holding her hand.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have told you-" She lifted my chin with her hand and looked me in the eyes and without another word being said she leaned in and kissed me. There were butterflies in my stomach, stars in my eyes, and fireworks going off in my head. When she pulled away she put her forehead against mine.

"I love you too." Even though I never exactly said I love you, she knew I meant to, I smiled.

"I knew I forgot something." She giggled and pulled away.

"How long did it take you to memorize that?" She asked sarcastically.

"Well, I've been working on it since the day we met. Just adding more to it every once and a while." She blushed and looked out into the view again. "Oh I have a going away present for you." I let go of her hand, stood up to get the box out of my pocket and sat back down handing it to her.

"Harry, you have bought enough for me don't you think"

"Nope, now take it." She sighed and took the box out of my hand. When she opened it her eyes lit up and her free hand coved her open mouth.

"Harry. It's so beautiful."

"Not too cheesy?" I asked nervously, but she just laughed.

"No not at all." I let out a sigh of relief

"Turn around, I'll put it on." She did as I said and handed me the necklace, which I draped over collar bones and around her neck. Once it was on she turned back towards me with a smile.

"Thank you."

"You are welcome." We sat both looking at the view for a moment before I remembered something. "What do you say after this we do one more ride?" She gave me a confused look. "You forgot to do something else while you were here. You know having such an amazing friend like me who drives you everywhere, you've never been on a big red bus!" She gasped

"How could I have forgotten!?"

"And that's why you need me around" We laughed and enjoyed ourselves on the way down. Once we got there it was pretty much dark. We got our jackets out of the car and made it to the big red bus, and we of course sat on top. She sat with her head in the crook of my neck and my arm around her, it was a cold night so sitting close had a good purpose. We sat in silence for a while until she looked at me.

"I can't go." she said with a serious look on her face.

"Can't go where?"

"Back to America. Not now." I smiled and kissed her forehead.

"I was hoping you would say that."
