Starring into his eyes, I felt hypnotized. Everything I ever wanted was in front of me. The blue eyed boy telling me that he would always be here for me if I let him.
“Jessica. What do you expect me to say?” He whispered as he held my hand delicately.
“I- I don’t know,” I answered, “Why now?”
His eyes looked back to the picture in the back of my room. I knew exactly why he had told me that. My head began to spin, did he want me to be happy? Or just gain more fame from me?
“Harry?” I asked.
“It’s not Harry! Why are you so obsessed with him!?” Niall screamed rushing out of my room.
My heart broke. My breath began to quicken and everything around me was spinning. I was losing the only person I’ve ever wanted close to me. This was the moment I had waited for all my life, yet it didn’t feel as I imagined. I looked around, not being able to focus on one thing at a time.

1. Chapter 1

Chapter 1:

“He’s been there:

When I cry. When I get heartbroken. When I laugh.

When there’s been rough times. When I’m mad. When I’m happy.

When I’m jealous. When I’m crazy. When I’m down. When I’m sad.

When I’m pretty. When I’m ugly...

Basically, he’s been through everything with me.”

I was sitting down on the bench. The wind was hitting my bare shoulders as I admired the scenery in front of me. There weren’t many days where I got to see around like I did today. My phone buzzed once again, and I instantly hung up knowing who it was. He probably wanted to know where I was, but it’s not like he actually cared.

My dad was the type of person who only cared about his image. He would always be a “dad” when someone was looking or asking about me. I never was the person to stand up to him until this day.

The reason he was calling was a long story, but all in all, he was mad because I told him the type of person he was.

I was sitting on the couch this morning, feeling like I always do, happy. When I received a call, I quickly answered the phone, never looking at the caller ID. I answered expecting Niall to be on the other line.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey Jess! How've you been?"

I instantly recognized the voice, regretting ever answering that call.

"Hey dad."

"Long time no talk right?" he said trying to make conversation.

Ever since I was a little girl, I never had my father by my side. My mom and him got a divorce. I lived with my mom, and he moved away and remarried. I honestly was torn by that, but looking back now, I didn't really care that much. When ever he would call, a smile would appear on my face, feeling so excited that I finally got the chance to talk to him. I would try so hard to catch his attention, always talking about having good grades, being top of my classes. Anything that I thought would make him say 'good job Jess!', because my mother would never spill those words out. Although I tried my hardest, our calls only lasted up to 5 minutes, always ending in 'I'll call you later, Okay Jess?' And I would wait, trusting every word that came from his mouth, but obviously he wouldn't call.

"Why are you calling?" I asked honestly.

"Just want to know how you're doing."

He would ask the same question, not really wanting an honest answer. He just acted like he was interested. I would always give him the answer he wanted.

"Oh, well i'm doing good."

"Wanna go out later? We can go to the park or something."

I rolled my eyes knowing that wasn't going to happen. I was always disappointed by him. Whenever he called because he wanted to hang out, he would never show up. Imagine a little girl wearing a dress, hair done, staring out the window, waiting for someone who never ends up showing up... That was me. I would never cry obviously, I would just walk away to my room, knowing that I shouldn't have trusted him again after the previous time. Then, months later, he would call again, leaving me there waiting for my father to show up, but he wouldn't.

"I actually have plans with Niall," I answered.

“You cant move them for later?” He asked.

“It’s not like you’re even gonna show up! You never do!”

Miles after I hung up, I was waiting for Niall at the bench we always hung out at. I walked towards the parking lot, knowing Niall was there after I texted him:

Me: My dad called...

Ni: Oh no 😱

Niall was the only person I trusted with anything that I would be to afraid to tell the world. We were friends since we went to kinder garden. He was the boy that came up to me when I didn't want my mom to leave school, afraid that she would not come back like my father. He would hold my hand and lead me to the play ground, where I would become easily distracted by Niall's goofiness.

"What happened?” Niall asked as he walked towards the bench.

“Same thing, I just don’t get it. Why does he keep pretending to care?” I ask following Niall.

“He’s a dick. Why did you answer?” He said pulling out the Cheetos from my backpack.

“I wasn’t expecting a call from him... I mean he never calls!” I exclaim.

"Why didn't you call me right after?" He asked concerned.

"I needed some alone time I guess, I mean I love looking around, I don't usually get to do that."

"Hey Jess," Niall said interrupting me from looking down at the city, "I gotta leave for work, will you be okay?"

"Yeah, I'll head home soon."

I looked down at my watch, realizing that it was getting dark. I quickly stood up and grabbed my phone seeing I had a text from my mom. As I unlocked my phone, I began walking towards my house.

Mom: Are you heading home soon? xx

Me: Yeah Im on my way xo

On my way home, I stopped at my favorite bakery knowing that my mom wouldn’t kill me if I brought home her favorite banana-nut bread. I opened the door, letting the delicious smell of freshly baked bread escape.

“Smells delicious,” I complemented, making my way through the door into the empty bakery.

“Thank you, love,” I heard an unfamiliar voice say.

I turned around, knowing Joey wasn’t at the front desk. As I turned around, my eyes met some emerald green ones. There was a boy, he was around my age, 16, and about 5’11. He was fairly tall for his age, well taller than me. For my age, I’m pretty short, being 5’1. I made my way towards the counter and greeted him.

“Hello Love,” he asked politely, “What may i help you with?”

“Banana-nut bread please.”

He smiled and walked towards the oven. I would always bake them with Joey, he was like my older brother. He would always teach me how to bake, he was my mom’s best friend. Ever since my dad left the picture, Joey would always be there for my mother. They were never more than friends, but they just become more like family.

“My apologies, there isn’t any but I can whip some up in about-”

“10 minutes with your help,” Joey said opening the door to the kitchen.

“Hey Jo! You really need me to help the new guy?” I asked with a giggle.

“You’re a special client, and very picky so run along!” He said leading me to the kitchen.

I walked inside, setting my things down and tying my hair up in a messy bun. I felt eyes stare at me and I quickly tied my apron. I walked towards the counter with all the ingredients next to the green eyed boy.

“How long have you been baking?” He asked curiously.

“Since I was a little girl.”

“By the height I can tell not long ago.”

I looked at him with surprised eyes. Although I get told many times that I am short, I never expected it from a person I just met. I grabbed the flour I used for the dough and threw some on his curls. He quickly turned around and cracked an egg above my head. The egg whites quickly making their way onto my hair. I smiled and threw more flour on him.

“I’m not that short, curly!” I exclaimed in between giggles.

“Whatever you said love,” Harry said looking down at me, “I’m Harry by the way.”

“Jessica,” I said, “How long have you been here in London?”

“I’m only here for my xfactor audition.”

“You sing?” I asked pouring the dough into the pan, “Can you sing something now?”

“Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful? Isn't she precious? Less than one minute old. I never thought through love we'd be, Making one as lovely as she, But isn't she lovely made from love.”

My jaw dropped, he left me speechless as I heard his angelic voice-. I mean he sang good. I quickly applauded, with a smile on my face.

“Wow, you’re good,” I complemented.

“Thank you love,” Harry said moving closer to me.

I looked down, feeling his gaze towards me. I usually got nervous around guys, mostly when they were as cute as Harry, and this time was no different. I looked up at him as he had a smirk on his face. His lips were pinkish, he had a crooked smile and it was pretty cute. He had dark brown curly hair, with flour in them of course. He was cute, I just had to admit it. We continued to talk for what seemed like hours. My phone quickly began to vibrate.

“Hello?” I answered.

“Jess where are you?” Mom asked.

“I came to pick up some bread, I’m about to start walking home.”

“Be careful! It’s getting dark.”

I hung up as Harry followed me outside of the kitchen. I quickly pulled money out of my bag as Harry wrapped the bread. I handed him the money, but he refused to take it.

“It’s okay, I’ll pay for it.”

“No Harry it’s fine, I should start heading home. Here,” I said handing him the money.

He shook his head and grabbed his hoodie.

“I’ll walk you home,” he said with a smile.

Harry seemed like a nice guy. It was really sweet of him to offer to walk me home and pay for the bread. We began to exit the shop as I remembered that I forgot to bring a hoodie. The cold air hit my skin as goosebumps began to form. Harry quickly took his hoodie off and handed it to me.

“No it’s okay,” I said.

“Take it.”

He placed the hoodie on me and I wrapped it around myself. It smelled really nice. Not trying to sound creepy or anything.

“Thank you,” I whispered feeling my body warm up.

“That was fun,” Harry said breaking the silence.

“Yeah it was, thanks for the bread,” I said pointing to the bag of bread in his hands.

“It’s no problem Love, you worked hard for it,” he said pointing at the flour and eggs on our hair.

I laughed, this boy was different. We continued to walk towards my house as I saw Niall driving in from work.

“Jess! Hey,” Niall said walking towards me, “who’s that?”

“This is Harry,” I said, “Harry this is my friend Niall.”

“Her best friend,” Niall said walking closer.

“Friend-zoned?” Harry asked with a smirk.

Niall glared at him as he kissed my cheek and pulled me into a hug. He then removed Harry’s hoodie from me and handed me his. I slowly threw it over my head and it wrapped on my body, warmth taking over as did Niall’s signature smell. I stood there awkwardly, waiting for someone to say anything as I handed Harry his hoodie back with a whispered thank you and smile on my face.

“I’ll take you home,” Niall said as Harry handed me the banana nut bread.

“I should go,” Harry said.

“It was nice meeting you Harry,” I said with a smile.

“You too love,” He said pulling me into a hug.

I hugged him back, feeling his warmth through Niall’s hoodie. Harry looked down at me and kiss my forehead as he let me go. A side smile appeared on his face as Niall scrunched up his nose. It was cute when he’d do that, acting all protective of me.

“Good luck tomorrow,” I whispered in his ear as he pulled away from the hug.

Niall opened the door for me and I quickly hopped inside, waving Harry goodbye. Niall closed the door and climbed on the drivers seat, instantly he began to drive. We were both quiet as Niall began to drive around. I had never seen Niall look like that before. As we were close to my house, Niall broke the silence.

“Jess, there’s something warning me about that guy you were walking with,” Niall said.

Was my best friend, Niall James Horan, Jealous?
